Benefits of dental CBCT

Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a type of imaging technology that allows dentists and dental specialists to capture three-dimensional (3D) images of a patient’s teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures. Here are some benefits of dental CBCT: Improved diagnosis and treatment planning: Dental CBCT provides highly accurate, detailed images of the teeth and jaws, which can help dentists and dental specialists make more accurate diagnoses and develop more effective treatment plans. Enhanced patient safety: Unlike traditional X-rays, which emit ionizing radiation, CBCT uses a lower dose of radiation, making it a safer option for patients. Better implant placement: CBCT...

Ep4- Going Digital: Intraoral Cameras Must Haves

In our previous articles, it was obvious that we couldn’t stress enough the basic need of having an intraoral (I/O) camera. This is the bare minimum of going digital. I/O cameras are essential tools to have better patient communication and increased case acceptance.     Things to look for in an intraoral camera:  Lightweight- I/O cameras must be ergonomic and leave a small footprint. This will make navigation inside the mouth easier and would take up less counter space when not in use.   Easy to use – point and shoot cameras were a hit for this very reason. The same principle...

WHY I USE: QUICKSCAN IOS

Entry-level intraoral scanner offers full-color digital scans at a low cost, an easy-to-use interface, simple file sharing, and impressive speed and accuracy   I acquired my first QuickScan 2 years ago when it was introduced at the International Dental Show in Cologne, Germany. Since then, I’ve been using it on a regular basis and have captured hundreds of digital scans. The 3 clinicians in our office are beta testers for several leading scanner brands, so we know a thing or two about scanning technology. I have to say: The QuickScan IOS is not just a good scanner, it’s an incredible scanner. It...

Who Invented CBCT?

In 1967, engineer Sir Godfrey N.Hounsfield invented the 1st generation C.T. scanner. A single detector element captured an x-ray beam. The detector and source rotated by a single degree, only, and were known as “pencil” beam scanners. At the time, they were only designed to scan the head. It wasn’t until 1982 that Robles RA built the Cone Beam CT for angiographies. This machine used a 2D detector to generate scans in a single rotation of the gentry. Other scanners had to use multiple slices to complete their images, putting CBCTs leagues ahead of the competition. Visit Video Dental today...

Who Discovered CBCT?

Sir Godfrey N. Hounsfield invented CBCT technology in 1967, although it was originally developed for use in angiography, not dentistry. In the years that followed, it would subsequently be applied to work in the maxillofacial field, which was a step in the direction of dentistry. It was only in the late ‘90s that it became possible for dental professionals to use this technology in inexpensive clinical systems in their offices. Other notable dates are 1974 when the first CT was developed by a medical equipment manufacturer, and 1976, which saw the first whole-body CT. But, when it comes to the...
